Home Group, one of the UK’s largest providers of social housing, has submitted plans to build more than 50 new homes on Theaker Lane in the Armley area of the city. They will be built by Mansell.
The proposed plans also include details for a 64-bed care home which will be built by LNT ե֭ for Ideal Care Homes, both of which are owned by local entrepreneur Lawrence Tomlinson.
The derelict site is a former tannery and soft drinks factory. Home Group head of development Teresa Snaith said: “The current site is overgrown and hasn’t been used for a number of years. At a consultation event we held with local residents they have said that they are keen to see the area regenerated and put to good use.”
The housing element of the scheme will cost £5.5m to build and has been partially funded by the Homes & Communities Agency. The care home will cost £4.5m to build.
Craig Houston, regional director for Mansell’s Yorkshire Business Unit, said: “We are excited to be involved with this major regeneration scheme, hopefully one of the first of many site-led opportunities to come to fruition in the coming months.”
