£18m to resurface Kessock Bridge

15 Mar 12 A contract estimated to be worth £18m is up for grabs to resurface Kessock Bridge in Inverness.

The 1km-long cable stayed bridge carries the A9 dual carriageway across the Beauly Firth and opened in 1982.

Transport Scotland has published a contract notice soliciting initial bids to resurface it and replace barriers. Work is scheduled to start in February 2013. It is expected to take 17 months to do the job but work is only allowed to take place between mid-February and June. Only limited traffic management is permitted at other times.

Work will include resurfacing and waterproofing 15,330 square metres of deck, replacing 2.1km of high containment safety barrier and N2 safety barrier and replacing 33 lighting columns. Substantial deck plate integrity testing is also required.
