Crewe Green Link Road South is planned to run £1.1km from an existing roundabout connecting the A532 Weston Rd South and University Way A502 and ties into an existing roundabout at northern spur of the A500 Hough-Shavington, east of Mill Lane.
The new road will be dual carriageway and will have a new roundabout midway along it. The aim is to reduce congestion south of Crewe and open up development land.
The scheme also involves road traffic passing beneath an existing railway line, so a new bridge will have to be built to carry the railway over the new road.
The council hopes to start work in April 2013 and finish by October 2015.
