£21m schoolwork for Shepherd

4 Nov 11 Shepherd Õ¥Ö¼§ has been named for the next two academy developments in Lincolnshire through the Partnership for Schools (PfS) framework.

Shepherd Õ¥Ö¼§ will build the £12m Priory Ruskin Academy at Grantham and the £9m University Academy Holbeach on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council and the respective sponsors, the Priory Trust and the University of Lincoln.

Building work on the 8,430m² Priory Ruskin Academy is due to start in February 2012, subject to planning permission being granted.  The plans will enable the academy, which is currently split between two sites, to operate from one location accommodating up to 1,250 pupils aged 11 to 19, and to specialise more in visual arts, sport and health.

Õ¥Ö¼§ will comprise a new two-storey building, specialist teaching block, four teaching house blocks and demolition of the existing school building.

The University Academy Holbeach will be a co-educational academy for up to 1,150 pupils aged 11 to 19, replacing two secondary modern schools, the George Farmer Technology & Language School in Holbeach and the St Guthlac School in Crowland. Both schools achieved single academy status on 1 September 2010.

Work on the new University Academy is due to start in April 2012 on the former George Farmer site.

Shepherd Õ¥Ö¼§ is one of 11 contractors on the £4bn PfS Academies Framework in the North and Midlands, providing an opportunity to bid for more £2bn of potential academy projects.
