Lerwick Port Authority signed an agreement with Norwegian decommissioning specialists AF Group in 2010 to develop the facility at Dales Voe, north of Lerwick. The scheme involves dredging and building a new quay to a depth of 24 metres and creating a yard for dismantling offshore platforms.
The quay construction contract is expected to be worth up to £35m for the selected contractor.
The deepwater dredging works consist of the removal of approximately 201,000 cubic metres of which 90,000 cubic metres is in a deepwater area, with 111,000 cubic metres dredging soft for reclamation/fill. It is likely that some combination of back-hoe and trailer-suction dredging will be used for the bulk of the work. Approximately 30,000 square metresof quay area will be created with associated infrastructure works.
Project manager for the scheme is Doig+Smith.
