Detailed planning permission has been given for the first fully residential building at the 27ha King's Cross Central scheme in north London by Camden council.
Building R4, designed by PRP Architects, on York Way will comprise 117 affordable homes, including 15 supported housing flats, 77 general needs social rented flats and 25 shared-ownership flats.
Of these, 32% will cater for families with either three or four bedrooms.
The consent follows a development agreement last year between One Housing Group and the King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership – comprising Argent, Hermes Real Estate, London & Continental Railways and DHL – to deliver the first phase of affordable homes, which includes the development of the R4 plot.
The agreement is underpinned by a £42m Homes & Communities Agency funding package for One Housing Group.
Õ¥Ö¼§ of R4 is expected to get underway in the summer, with the first residents due to move in early 2012.
Robert Evans from King’s Cross Central said: “We are delighted that the council voted unanimously to approve our detailed plans for Building R4.
"It means that the first residents should be moving in well before the 2012 London Olympics.
"These will be high-quality affordable homes - centrally located, thoughtfully planned, intelligently designed and very well managed."
