Three civil engineering contractors have been selected to carry out £25m-worth of embankment and structures work on the Tyne & Wear metro.
Balfour Beatty, Bam Nuttall, and May Gurney will carry out refurbishment and replacement works to bridges, retaining walls, culverts, earthworks and drainage.
The three-year framework deal is worth £8.3m to each contractor.
The contract is one of nine lots tendered this year by the Tyne & Wear Passenger Transport Executive, as part of its £100m Asset Renewal Plan.
