Two construction workers have died after falls from the Forth Bridge and the Tay Rail Bridge, within 10 hours of each other.
A member of the Forth Bridge painting team, a subcontractor to Balfour Beatty, fell about 150ft from a ladder onto scaffolding below the railway. The incident occurred just before 2100 on Wednesday, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another worker died after falling onto a ledge while working on the Tay Bridge, at about 640 on Thursday.
David Simpson, Network Rail Scotland route director, said: "These tragic events have deeply shocked and saddened everyone linked to these projects.
"Such events have become extremely rare in the last decade as a result of rigorous safety regimes on both bridges. An investigation into the causes of these accidents is already underway."
