Portsmouth-based Warings Group has been awarded the £16.3m contract to build a museum for historic ship, the Mary Rose.
The project will involve construction of a new boat-shaped building located over the dry dock of the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, where the 16th-century Mary Rose currently sits while it undergoes conservation work.
Bouygues-owned Warings has an 18-month contract to construct the frame of the building and fit out the interior. The contractor also has option to carry out further works on the site in 2016.
The whole cost of the museum and conservation of the ship itself will be £35m, part-funded by a £21m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Mary Rose Trust raised a further £10m.
Warings has been on site since December carrying out enabling and foundation works.
The Mary Rose has been closed to the public for a year in preparation.
