The foundation works were awarded to Aarsleff by main contractor Lend Lease ե֭, which was awarded the contract for the redevelopment of the barracks by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) last autumn. (
The project involves the construction of 25 new buildings, as well as the refurbishment of eight existing buildings. The barracks are being prepared for the relocation of two signal regiments from their current bases in Germany.
The initial piling element of the project will see Aarsleff install approximately 1,000 piles for three of the new structures. Work is expected to last just seven weeks, with two of the company’s Junttan PM20 rigs having arrived on site mid-May.
Aarsleff managing director Chris Primett said: “This is an exciting and prestigious project for Aarsleff and required a good deal of planning and coordination with all parties involved.” These included the Lend Lease team managing the project as well as with design consultants URS to ensure the pile design and layout conformed to Eurocode EC7.
