The contract involves a €295m (£238m) investment to rehabilitate the 43km railway from Vintu des Jos to Simeria. The tracks are part of the European Corridor 4 and will be upgraded to a maximum speed of 160km/h. Alpine placed the bid as part of a consortium with FCC, Azvi and Straco.
The work has been commissioned by CFR, the national Romanian rail company and 85 % of the project will be financed with European funds.
Across the three contracts, the Alpine and its partners will build a total of 96km of new railway in Romania’s Transylvania region for €678m. Alpine was commissioned to build the 23km section between Sighisoara and Atel together with FCC and Azvi in February for €208m. A €175m contract to rehabilitate a 30km between Sighisoara and Micasasa was signed in May.Â
