Atrad has bought Generation Hire & Sales and MTD Scaffolding.
Generation Hire & Sales bills itself as the UK’s the largest supplier of non-mechanical access systems, builders’ equipment and safety products. It has a network of 13 branches and annual revenues of approximately £37m. It began life in the 1970s as a McAlpine operation and was then part of Mitie Group until a management buyout in 2004. Managing director Mark Clifford and commercial director Alan Wilkinson will continue with the business.
Altrad Belle UK managing director Ray Neilson said: "This acquisition forms part of the bigger plan to provide the UK market with products and services from Altrad, which specialises in the manufacturing and sales of scaffolding, cement mixers and wheelbarrows, together with providing additional services in the access sector."
The deals follow other Altrad acquisitions in the UK of BarOmix, Belle Group, Beaver 84 and NSG.
Altrad has also acquired Midlands-based MTD Scaffolding, a £3.5m turnover business that employs 60 people.
MTD was actually acquired through NSG, to build up its exposure to the social housing sector, where MTD is strong.
"There is a tremendous opportunity for NSG to expand in the UK organically or through strategic acquisitions of companies with similar activities to provide customers with a full UK coverage as well as the Altrad international support that already exists," said NSG managing director Mike Carr.
