The £340m scheme from British Land and Blackstone Group will demolish numbers 4 and 6 Broadgate and replace them with a new 66,890 sq m (700,000 sq ft) building that will be the London headquarters of Swiss bank UBS.
The City’s planning committee described 5 Broadgate, designed by Ken Shuttleworth of architects practice Make, as a “striking and eye catching addition to the new architecture of the City”.
The proposed programme sees demolition begin next month and substructure work on the new building start in January 2012.
Shell and core should be complete by mid-2014.
Other members of the design team include structural engineer Buro Happold and building services engineer Watkins Payne Partnership. Cost consultant is Sense, development manager is M3 Consulting and planning consultant is DP9.
