The environmental remediation will be carried out under a 10-year, firm-fixed-price contract, with US$16m authorised to date, Arcadis will restore 104 sites impacted by historical operations.
The nature of the environmental impacts at JB-MDL include petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCBs), landfills, soil, ground water and surface water issues. Contaminant are present as non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs), dissolved in water, and in soils. The work will include the use of proven clean-up technologies such as soil removal, soil vapour extraction (SVE), air sparging (AS), monitored natural attenuation (MNA). More innovative techniques will also be used, such as in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), permeable reactive barriers (PRB), directed groundwater recirculation (DGR), enhanced reductive dechlorination (ERD) and in-situ bioremediation (ISB).  Â
