Award-winning steel erector in administration

3 Nov 11 Bradford-based Barrett Steel Buildings Ltd has gone into administration after orders dried up.

Administrators Mark Firmin and Howard Smith of KPMG said that the business had suffered a “significant” fall in new orders.

More than half of the workforce – 23 out of 40 – was laid off immediately. The future of the remained depends on a buyer being found quickly

Barrett Steel Buildings was part of Barrett Steel Ltd Group until it was demerged in 1994. It was acquired by Barrett Structures in 2007.

In July the company won the top design award for structural steelwork at the Structural Steelwork Design Awards 2011.  Its winning entry was the Marks & Spencer distribution facility at Prologis Park in Bradford - one of the largest distribution centres ever built in the UK.
