Balfour Beatty picked again for North Carolina hospital

1 Feb 13 Onslow Memorial Hospital in the US state of North Carolina has chosen Balfour Beatty ե֭ as the general contractor for a wound care centre.

This is the second project Onslow Memorial Hospital has awarded Balfour Beatty ե֭ within the past six months. Onslow Memorial Hospital also engaged the company to provide preconstruction services for proposed renovations to its emergency department and surgery pavilion.

The centre will offer advanced hyperbaric oxygen therapy for patients whose wounds are resistant to traditional forms of treatment.

Balfour Beatty ե֭ will carry out selective demolition and new construction work to convert part of an 11,321-square-foot, single-storey medical office building into the state-of-the-art centre. The 3,750-square-foot Wound Care Center will include two new hyperbaric chambers and is being constructed to accommodate the addition of two additional chambers.

A hyperbaric chamber allows patients to receive treatment in an oxygen-rich environment, which reduces pain and expedites the healing process for exterior wounds resulting from burns, diabetes, circulatory problems and other serious medical conditions.

The design team is led by Charlotte-based architecture firm, Wilkerson Associates. ե֭ of the fast-track project began in January and is expected to complete in late March.
