The first phase of the redevelopment will involve the construction of a new five-storey inpatient ward facility for the specialist Neuro Musculoskeletal Orthopaedic Hospital, based in Stanmore.
Balfour Beatty is expected to complete its £35m contract in august 2018. It will use building information modelling (BIM) as an interface between live hospital operations and construction works.
“This contract with Balfour Beatty represents the first step towards the complete replacement of the existing outdated infrastructure at Stanmore,” said Frank Hennessy, director of redevelopment at the RNOH NHS Trust. “Further phases are already at an advanced planning stage and will be implemented over the following decade or so”.
Balfour Beatty regional managing director David Kennedy said: “There has been significant interest and support from Harrow Borough Council and the local community for the redevelopment of this historic hospital. We look forward to delivering the initial phase of what will be a first-class facility for patients of this world renowned hospital.”
The demolition of the old Patient Centre started in August 2016 and has been captured in a timelapse video, shown below.
