The project will connect the New Lubbesthorpe Sustainable Urban Extension (NLSUE) housing development to the west of Leicester with the road network in the east.
The 52-metre span bridge will be built from composite steel and reinforced concrete with a pier located in the M1 central reserve. The project also includes the construction of approximately 350 metres of two lane single-carriageway road, foot and cycle ways.
Balfour Beatty was awarded the contract through the Midlands Highways Alliance Framework.
Balfour Beatty regional managing director Mike Reade said: “Through this latest award we will demonstrate Balfour Beatty’s ability to deliver vital transport infrastructure schemes while offering clear benefits to the local community. We have now secured £20m of work through the alliance since 2014 and we look forward to delivering much more.”
The project is expected to be completed during summer 2016.
