The two-storey building will provide 78,039 sq ft of space, split between production, warehouse and office use. The design incorporates sustainable elements to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating.
The NHS Trust appointed Balfour Beatty to develop the shell building, which it will take on a 25-year lease with fixed upward rent reviews. Detailed planning consent was obtained for the PMU in September 2012 and in February this year Balfour Beatty completed the purchase of the three-acre site from Cavanna Homes. The site is part of a larger site that Cavanna is bringing forward for 220 new homes.
The first phase of the enabling works, a new access road and traffic light junction on the main Paington Road is already complete, with the base building scheduled to finish by the end of the year. The NHS Trust hopes to have the new facility operational by the end of 2014.
