The project, which has yet to receive planning permission, is a PFI scheme led by a consortium of Cory Environmental and Wheelabrator Technologies on behalf of Norfolk County Council.

Cory Wheelabrator’s proposed Willows Power & Recycling Centre, at The Willows Business Park in Saddlebow near King's Lynn, would process 260,000 tonnes of waste a year and generate more than 20MW of electricity.

Bam Nuttall business development manager David Brothers  said: “We are very pleased to have been selected to deliver the civil engineering work for the proposed Willows power and recycling centre at King’s Lynn.

“We are liaising with existing suppliers of goods and building service, but we’re also keen to speak with firms from across Norfolk and the eastern region about a range of subcontracting opportunities.”

The contract award follows approval last week from environment secretary Caroline Spelman for £91m in waste infrastructure grant funding towards the cost of the plant.
