Site investigation work is being carried out to determine the condition of the bridge deck, after which a detailed design programme will be produced.
Work is expected to involve the replacement of substrates beneath the running surface of the deck, followed by steel repairs to the bascules and waterproofing the approaches. Once the design has been approved by London City Corporation it is anticipated that the construction work will start in October 2016 with a view to completing the programme by the end of 2016.
BAM Nuttall said that the work would be the most intensive undertaken on the bridge since 1962.
