It is the contractor’s second project for BUPA-owned Richmond Care Villages, for whom it is already building a retirement in Witney, Oxfordshire.
The £40m Wood Norton development will have 48 apartments for independent living, 46 rooms for assisted living, and a 60-bed care home providing nursing and dementia care. There will also be community facilities such as lounges, a library, terrace café, restaurant and bar
BAM Design is developing final designs for the scheme, working with the structural engineer and M&E subcontractor to coordinate the integration of more than 1,000 services holes through the steel frame.
The new development is to be built on the site of a former BBC residential training centre. Demolition work has included the removal of roof tiles to allow bats to escape as well as asbestos clearance. Subcontractors are currently undertaking groundworks to a 26,000m3 cut excavation for the basement.
Construction should be completed in September 2018.
BAM ե֭ regional director Rod Stiles said: “This is a significant high quality private development in a specialist sector. We are very appreciative that the client has put its trust in us again.”
Richmond Care Villages managing director Paddy Brice added: “Richmond Wood Norton is an extremely complex development with a main Village Care Centre of 100,000 square feet, but I am confident that BAM have the expertise to deliver a fantastic building for us to provide the very best in retirement living and care.”
