The agreement has been signed with a joint venture of Colas subsidiary GTOI, Vinci Õ¥Ö¼§ Terrassement and SBTPC, which is also part of Vinci.
The joint venture will use 2,800 Xblocs of 4m3 on the project. The shore protection has been designed by the French design consultant Egis and the design has been tested in a physical model at the Danish Hydraulic Institute.
Xbloc is a patented concrete armour unit, which has been developed by BAM for shore protection and breakwaters and has been applied at various locations around the world since 2004. The structure of the units has been designed to require less concrete than other armouring systems and to allow faster placement.
