GB acquired the site in 2009 and its property development wing, GB Development Solutions, achieved outline planning permission for 68 units at the end of August 2011.
In the meantime GB Building Solutions, the contracting arm, completed the design and build of a new 10,338-seat, £11.5m stadium in 2010 just one mile from the centre of Chesterfield, kick starting the regeneration of the area.
The Barratt housing scheme will be another step in that regeneration. Barratt Homes intends to build 68 family homes of two, three and four bedrooms in line with the planning permission that GB secured. Prior to demolishing the existing structure however, an archaeological dig and survey must be carried out.
GB Group chairman and chief executive Martin Smout said, “After working with Chesterfield FC for a number of years we are really pleased to complete this deal with Barratt Homes, one of the leading housing developers in the UK. We know that local people are really keen to see the site developed and the much needed provision of new homes that this will create.”
