Over the next eight years, London City Airport plans to build seven new aircraft stands, a parallel taxiway and a passenger terminal extension.
The new facilities will allow for a further 30,000 permitted flight movements and up to 6.5 million passengers by 2025.
Bechtel’s five-year contract will see 50 of its staff work as part of an integrated team with London City Airport officials to deliver the £370m City Airport Development Programme. The upgrade will be delivered under the leadership of Peter Adams, who is joining the airport from his current job as major projects director at Highways England. His job title at the airport will be chief asset and programme officer.
Bechtel UK managing director Paul Gibbs said: “Delivering London City’s expansion in an operational, urban airport surrounded by water, presents complex challenges that our team can meet. We will partner with London City to enhance this important gateway with minimum disruption to passengers, airlines and the community.”
Declan Collier, CEO of London City Airport, said: "The appointments of Bechtel and Peter Adams signal the next important steps towards the start of construction on this significant development. Their combined expertise and experience will ensure that the programme is delivered responsibly, professionally and skilfully, while the airport remains operational."
