Bids called for Scottish prison

18 Jan 11 The Scottish Prison Service has called for pre-qualifying tenders to design and build HMP Grampian, which it proposes to replace the prisons at Peterhead and Aberdeen.

Contract award is still subject to both planning permission and funding being granted by the Scottish government for the project. The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is expecting bids in the region of £50m to £100m.

Proposed site of the new prison is on part of the current HMP Peterhead site. It will have 500 cells across three separate accommodation blocks for men, women and male young offenders.

As part of the single stage design and construct strategy, the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) will provide prospective tenderers with a design developed to stage D (RIBA Plan of Work). The client will also advise which parts of the design may not be changed and which parts are exemplar and therefore to be designed and developed as part of the works.
