Currently, most tenants have one contractor looking after their repair needs and another for any issues with gas. The new four-year contracts will operate on a geographical basis and will deal with all repairs, maintenance, gas servicing and home improvements.
From 1st April 2016 the new arrangements will see Keepmoat providing services to tenants living in the north of the city, Wates Living Space Maintenance looking after west central and east Birmingham, and Willmott Dixon covering the south of the city.
Willmott Dixon said that its £148m contract involved repairs and maintenance to 23,136 homes in Edgbaston, Selly Oak and Northfield over the next four years.
Keepmoat’s contract covers 8,865 properties in the Sutton Coldfield and Erdington districts.
Wates Living Space will look after 31, 027 properties in total, with 12,664 properties in Perry Barr and Ladywood plus a further 18,363 properties in Hodge Hill, Yardley and Hall Green.
Birmingham councillor John Cotton said that the new contract arrangement saved money.
