Brick maker back to profit

26 Mar 12 Michelmersh Brick returned to profit in 2011 after reorganisation and losses in 2010.

Group turnover increased 4% to £24.3 million (2010: £23.3 million) and operating profit moved forward to £1.3m (2010: loss of £500k).

Pre-tax profit in 2011 was £530k, compared to a £7.7m loss in 2010.

The company manufactured and sold 70 million bricks during the year and price per thousand improved to £345 (2010: £330 per thousand).

“The group is now stable, profitable and cash generating, with re-balanced funding in place,” said chief executive Martin Werner. “We firmly believe that there will be further opportunities in our chosen field and we have the team and resources in place to make the right strategic decisions and to build a leading position in our market.”

There is still no dividend for shareholders but the board hopes to resume these “as soon as reasonably practicable, when market and economic circumstances permit”.
