The station is being redeveloped in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, when it will be a key transport hub for those travelling to and from many of the Games’ events.
The contract awarded to C Spencer includes the delivery of a new station building, lifts, a pedestrian footbridge and resurfaced platforms, as well as new customer information and communication systems.
C Spencer is already on site, having previously won an advance works contract to prepare the station for refurbishment. Network Rail expects to complete the project by autumn 2013.
Network Rail is delivering the project on behalf of Transport Scotland and the funding partners – SPT, Clyde Gateway, Glasgow City Council and the European Regional Development Fund.
Network Rail route managing director for Scotland David Simpson said: “C Spencer has a track-record of successful delivery on Network Rail projects and we look forward to working with the company to complete this new facility.
“We are confident that we can deliver the new station on-time and within budget and that it will provide visitors with a first-class welcome to the local area, during the Commonwealth Games and beyond.”
