According to the BCLive contracts league, compiled by the Builders’ Conference, Carillion won £1,936.6m of new construction work in 2013.
Morgan Sindall was close behind with £1,912.3m for the year. Balfour Beatty picked up ££1,727.5m.
It is notable that Carillion’s league-topping total came from just 16 project awards, while Morgan Sindall and Balfour Beatty won 196 and 140 respectively.
The only other two contractors to win more than £1bn of new construction work in 2013 were BAM (£1,262.5m, 73 projects) and Kier (£1,209.3m, 118 projects).
More significantly for the industry, the total value of construction contracts let during 2013 was a massive 41% higher than 2012, according to the Builders’ Conference, reaching £32,560.5m, up from £23,052.8m in 2012.
The value of education projects that were awarded during the year more than doubled from £2,744m in 2012 to £5,851m. Housing grew almost as strongly, from £5,924m to £9,307m.
