The US$2.9bn (£2bn) road from Peshawar to Karachi is the biggest transportation infrastructure project planned for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The route runs from the south, starting in Karachi - which is Pakistan’s largest city - and passes Lahore - the second largest city - before reaching Peshawar in the north-west of the country.
The section between Sukkur and Multan will be undertaken by China State Õ¥Ö¼§.
