This suggests that construction is precisely twice as dangerous as the average job, as the UK average across all sectors is 19%. The only industry to rank higher than construction in lost-day injuries is transport at 47%.

These are the findings of a survey conducted in August by OnePoll on behalf of insurance company There. The survey quizzed 2,000 UK workers in total from 25 different industries.

Not only are construction workers more likely than most top get injured, they are also prone to taking time off sick. The survey found that the average across all 2,000 workers was 2.5 sick days a year. The 91 construction workers were taking 2.8 sick days a year.
