The Department for Business, Innovation & Skills has published a contract notice on the EU Official Journal today seeking a construction company to build the pavilion, with a budget of £3m to £6m for the contract.
The building will be used by the UK government to showcase “Britain's distinctive qualities of creativity and enterprise” to the Milan Expo next year. It will address the overall Expo theme, Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. The Expo's central theme is nutrition, explored in terms of food production and consumption, but participating countries are also asked to examine how to nurture the environment and celebrate the life-enhancing and social aspects of food.
BIS says that the challenge for construction companies is to invent a structure that represents a British take on the Expo theme.
It adds: “The project presents a fascinating opportunity for an exceptional team to come to world attention.”
Further details of the competition procedure can be found in our Contract Leads section.
