The project is being developed by Sunderland Association Football Club’s charitable arm, the Foundation of Light. It has submitted planning permission for the development on the banks of the Wear.
It has been designed as a cube by FaulknerBrowns Architects. The six-storey development will provide 11,140m2 of space and occupy 4.75 hectares.
“The shape of the building is a simple but striking cube,” said FaulknerBrowns partner Michael Hall. “On entering the building on the first floor, users will be presented with a busy street along which the various activities within the building will interconnect. Inspirational zones for education, world of work, health and wellbeing and sport and play will be clearly earmarked and enjoy excellent views into the sports arena.”
Corporate sponsors of the project include Caterpillar UK.
