Cowi is using the drones for topographical measurements of the locations of the proposed dams and says that the approach is proving more accurate and twice as fast as traditional methods.
The project is currently planned to run for three years and includes up to 100 dams in 10 provinces. It is financed by the World Bank and the African Development Bank.
The aim is that the dams will improve livelihoods in the countryside. Each will be up to 15m high and will store water that can be used by local rural communities for irrigation and water supply during the drought season.
