Crossrail’s Farringdon station out to tender

25 Nov 10 Bids have been called for the £375m contract to build the Farringdon Crossrail Station in London.

Work includes platforms and concourse tunnels that join the running tunnels, cross passages and escalator barrels, as well as general civils and building works to construct the ticket halls structures. The package, Contract C435, also includes design, installation, testing and commissioning of mechanical, electrical and piped services associated with the station, including lifts and escalators.

Crossrail Ltd, owned by Transport for London, is delivery a new passenger railway connecting London City, Canary Wharf, the West End and Heathrow Airport to areas east and west of London. The majority of the central section of the new railway will run via new twin bored tunnels under central London.

The Farringdon Crossrail station comprises two platform tunnels, each the length of two football pitches, linking two new ticket halls in the East and West. The West ticket hall will be shared with Thameslink services, and will have an entrance on Cowcross Street, opposite the existing Farringdon London Underground station. The East Ticket Hall will have entrances at the Long Lane end of the station, on Lindsey Street and Hayne Street.  It will link directly with the existing London Underground platforms at Barbican Station and therefore provide access to the Metropolitan, Circle and Hammersmith and City lines

Work is expected to take 70 months.
