A woman, reportedly in her 30s, was killed when knocked from a bicycle as a tipper truck belonging to GF Gordon Plant Hire turned left at traffic lights from Bressenden Place onto Victoria Street.
Gordon Plant has a large fleet of tipper lorries that operate in and out of London, extensively on the Crossrail projects, providing muckaway services. Recently, it has worked with Cycle Training UK to increase awareness between cyclists and drivers of tipper lorries under the banner ‘Sharing the Road’. It even has this painted on some of its newest vehicles, although not on the one involved in yesterday’s fatality.
Gordon Plant’s new lorries include improved cameras that respond to driver’s truck manoeuvres (zooming left, right etc) and additional sensors that effectively eliminate the blind spot.
Gordon Plant drivers have been put through Transport for London’s Safe Urban Driving CPC training which includes practical on-bike training on urban roads.
"We are constantly striving to improve our road safety and we are very hopeful this initiative will help us to continue to improve," director Arran Gordon has said.
