Headed by partner Neill Morrison, the 10-strong team will focus on adding value to its clients by focusing on how little a building should cost, rather than how much is needed in a cost plan to be safe.
The cost consultancy team will operate alongside the Drivers Jonas Deloitte construction advisory practice and be aligned with the markets currently served by Deloitte, including corporate occupiers, the property industry and the public sector. The services offered are cost planning, cost management, value management and risk management – though the new business will also work closely with Deloitte’s existing tax and sustainability expertise in order to closely integrate this specialist knowledge into its service offering.
Neill Morrison, partner and head of the cost consultancy team at Deloitte, said: “My aim is to create a cost consultancy business with a culture of excellence, focused on delivering a consistently exceptional service. We’ve built up a team of the very best people in the industry – not just the people who are technically competent, but people with the right attitude. They’ve got the enthusiasm and motivation, and they want to get closer to clients to make a difference.
“We are focused and selective and only intend to work where adding value is, in itself, valued. We offer a very specialised service delivered by senior and experienced professionals who understand large, complex buildings inside-out.
“Cost consultancy complements the very wide range of advisory services that Deloitte already offers its clients. We work closely with our colleagues across the business to draw on their commercial expertise and knowledge. Our investment decisions are based on facts, not guesswork. As part of the Deloitte family, we enjoy a much closer relationship with our clients and we can help shape their real estate strategies by demonstrating the life-cycle costs of a property portfolio, not just construction spend.“
Claire Faulkner, partner and head of the Deloitte real estate practice, added: “The real estate market continues to present significant advisory opportunities, particularly in construction. The new cost consultancy team has hit the ground running at a time when we are seeing increasing activity in the real estate sector. Neill and his team’s expertise will further enable Deloitte to provide clients with a comprehensive and integrated suite of transaction and advisory services to meet all their business and property needs. I have no doubt this adds to our unique position allowing us to provide an integrated and independent offer combining real estate knowledge, tax, finance and structuring advice to UK and international clients.”
Morrison joined in 2010 from Davis Langdon where he was managing a commercial team having previously sat on the management board. He has 30 years’ experience in property and cost management serving a variety of global blue chip clients.
