Sweco’s assignment involves planning a 9km-long tunnel on the E134 highway. The new tunnel for Statens vegvesen will cut the current road journey from a hilly 23km to a straight and even distance of 12km.
“This is an important road project in the heart of Telemark. We look forward to developing a solution that increases traffic safety, shortens travel time and reduces environmental impact,” said Tron Kjølhamar, president of Sweco Norway.
Geotechnical engineers, geologists, designers and environmental specialists will be among those working on the scheme.
Planning and design work will begin immediately and the road is expected to open for traffic in 2018.
