The first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, found that the year-on-year values fell by 1.7% in the Euro area and by 0.4% in the EU28.
September’s monthly decrease of 1.8% was due to building construction falling by 1.6% and civil engineering by 3%. In the EU28,the decrease of 0.9% is due to building construction falling by 0.8% and civil engineering by 1.3%.
Among countries with data available, the largest decreases in production in construction were observed in Slovenia (-8.6%), Italy (-5.4%), Sweden (-3.2%) and France (-2.3%), and the highest increases in Romania (+7.9%), the Czech Republic (+2.7%) and Bulgaria (+2.4%).
For the annual comparison, the 1.7% decrease is due to building construction falling by 1.2% and civil engineering by 2.1%. In the EU28, the decrease of 0.4% is due to civil engineering falling by 1.9%, while building construction rose by 0.3%. Decreases were registered in Italy (-10.6%), Portugal (-5.2%), France (-3.4%), the Netherlands (-3.1%) and Germany (-1.5%), and the highest increases were inSpain (+9.1%), the Czech Republic (+8.2%), Hungary (+7.3%), Slovenia (+6.2%) and Bulgaria (+5.8%).
