There was a rise of 1.9% in the 19 countries of the Eurozone, which now includes Lithuania.
Production in construction grew by 3% in the Euro area in the year to January 2015 and by 1.4% in the 28 countries of the EU (EU28) though again the UK’s figure fell - in this case by 3.3%.
The increase of 1.9% monthly increase in output in the Euro area is due to building construction rising by 2.3% and civil engineering by 0.2%. In the EU28, the increase of 1% is due to building construction rising by 1.3%, while civil engineering fell by 0.7%.
Among member states with data available, the highest increases were observed in Slovenia (+11.2%), the Czech Republic (+8.7%), Hungary (+6.6%) and Germany (+5.0%), and the largest decreases in Romania (-5.3%), the United Kingdom (-2.8%) and Bulgaria (-1.7%).
In terms of the annual comparison, the 3% increase in the Eurozone is due to building construction and civil engineering both rising by 3%. In the EU28, the increase of 1.4% is due to building construction rising by 1.6% and civil engineering by 0.4%.
Among member states with data available, the highest increases in production in construction were registered in Spain (+14.4%), Romania (+12.8%), Sweden (+11.3%), the Czech Republic (+8.3%) and Hungary (+8.1%) and the largest decreases in Bulgaria (-4.2%), the United Kingdom (-3.3%) and Italy (-2.4%).
