Annual comparisons with April 2014 show that production in construction remained stable in the Euro area and grew by 1.3% in the EU28.
The figures are initial estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
In March, production in construction had grown by 0.6% in the Euro area and 1.4% across the 28 countries of the EU (EU28).
The monthly increase of 0.3% in production in construction in the Euro area in April 2015 compared with the previous month is due to building construction rising by 0.5%, while civil engineering fell by 1.8%.
In the EU28, the decrease of 0.3% was caused by building construction falling by 0.1% and civil engineering by 2%.
Among member states with data available, increases in production in construction were observed in Slovakia (+2.5%), Spain (+1.5%), Germany and Poland (both +1.3%) and Sweden (+1.2%). The highest decreases were recorded in Romania (-3.3%), the United Kingdom (-2.9%) and Portugal (-2.5%).
In terms of the annual comparisons, production in construction in the Euro arearemained stable due to building construction rising by 0.8%, while civil engineering fell by 3.2%. In the EU28, the increase of 1.3% is don to building construction rising by 1.6% and civil engineering by 0.3%.
Among member states with available, the highest increases in production in construction were registered in Slovakia (+14.1%), Romania and Sweden (both +10.8%), Hungary (+10.7%) and the Czech Republic (+10.3%), and the largest decreases in Slovenia (-7.5%), France (-6.2%) and Portugal (-4.4%).
