The project includes extensive repair and restoration within the 15 hectare park, including amenity spaces, soft landscaping, historic buildings, structures, paths, lighting, street furniture and the marine lake edge.Â
The project includes the restoration of the Gardens’ Venetian-style footbridge as well as the restoration of original external lighting and redevelopment of the lakeside edge to accommodate new visitor attractions.
The improvements are a key element of the council’s plans to transform the seafront and promote its use and enjoyment by local people and visitors.Â
As lead consultant, Capita Symonds is responsible for project managing the overall delivery of the design and for managing a team comprising Capita Symonds design engineers, the council’s landscape designers, and externally appointed conservation architects. Capita Symonds is also directly responsible for the restoration and improvement of external lighting and surfaces, the lakeside retaining wall and revetment edge, and the footbridge.Â
Work on the project, which is expected to begin in late 2012, is being jointly funded by Sefton Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund’s ‘Parks for People’ programme.Â
