Festival Theatre refurb out to tender

5 Apr 12 Chichester Festival Theatre has gone out to tender on an £11m programme of works to remodel and refurbish the Grade II listed 1960s building.

Redevelopment plans for the Festival Theatre received unanimous approval from Chichester District Council for planning permission and listed building consent in December 2011.

The theatre, with the assistance of Drivers Jonas Deloitte, has now published a contract notice in the UE Official Journal.

The project includes improvements to the foyers and front of house areas, as well as in the auditorium and backstage. The auditorium is to be remodelled to improve sightlines and acoustics

Improvements are also to be made to the outdated ventilation system and insulation is to be upgraded to improve the thermal and acoustic performance of the building.

The theatre, founded by Lord Olivier in 1962 and so celebrating its 50thanniversary this year, also wants to exploit more sustainable technologies to minimise its future running costs.
