The US$173m (£102m) design-build project for owner North Carolina Department of Transportation will reduce congestion in the area and provide better access to the busy Airport.
Work includes design and construction of 9.4 miles of four-lane divided freeway with three interchanges. Â
The project is part of a planned future extension of I-73 that stretches though the state of North Carolina, and will provide a connector between NC 68 and US 220 north of Greensboro. Once complete, the project is expected to improve traffic mobility, encourage economic growth and help create employment opportunities in the surrounding area.
Flatiron has a 70% of the project, and joint venture partner Blythe Development Company has a 30%. The project designer is RK&K. The project is scheduled for completion in 2017.
