ե֭ is expected to begin this summer.
The principal contract for the design, construction and completion of the Forth Replacement Crossing (FRC) has now been officially awarded to the Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors (FCBC) consortium.
FCBC was as the preferred bidder for the contract on 21 March.
The FCBC consortium comprises:
- Hochtief ե֭
- Dragados
- American Bridge International
- Morrison ե֭
The contractors are supported by a design team comprising Ramboll, Gifford, Grontmij and Leonhardt Andrae & Partner.
The new 2.7km bridge will take the form of a dual-lane carriageway with hard shoulders. The crossing comprises two approach viaducts and a 2.1km cablestayed bridge with two 650-metre spans. It will replace the existing Forth Road Bridge as the main route for traffic across the Forth. Under current proposals the existing Forth Road Bridge will be retained as a dedicated public transport corridor for buses, cycles and taxis.
The project also comprises the construction of approximately 7km of road infrastructure and associated structures and installation of an intelligent transport system.
Commenting on the award, FCBC’s Carlos Rohde said: “We are naturally delighted to reach contract close with Transport Scotland. Over 100 people led by personnel at Grangemouth worked for over 18-months to deliver the bid. Huge credit must go to this committed team which worked extremely hard to deliver an efficient design and more importantly an economical construction sequence and work methodology for our client.”
Mr Rohde continued: “FCBC includes world-class bridge building and civil engineering firms with strong records of successfully delivering similar projects throughout the world. United they will provide the full range of skills, resources and technical expertise for this complex project.”
The bridge is scheduled to open to traffic in 2016.
