The design and build project to create a new residential wing at Ash Court, on the main college site at Huntingdon Road, includes 50 en-suite study bedrooms, student kitchens and a gym. The contract includes refurbishment and external rebuilding of the college’s Grade II listed swimming pool and landscaping of Ash Court.
ե֭ work starts this month and is scheduled to complete in July 2013.
Intended to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating, the development will have photovoltaic solar panels on the roof, ground-source heat pumps and heat recovery from the room ventilation system. This will play a part in the college’s plan to reduce its carbon footprint.
Project management and QS is Sweett Group, with Allies & Morrison, Max Fordham and Fluid Structures working as consultants.
Mansell regional managing director Dean Burgess said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with Girton College and the extended consultant team on such a prestigious project.”
