Work to the £18m new leisure centre will create a 25m by 17m eight-lane competition swimming pool with a gallery for 250 spectators, a 20m x 10m training pool with underwater movable floor, a 11m x 5m teaching/remedial pool and a changing area with adjoining health suite.
Dry-side facilities will include a gym with 80 stations, strength and conditioning studio, purpose built aerobics studio, regional standard eight badminton court sports hall and two squash courts.
Outdoor facilities will include an 11 a side synthetic pitch, three 5 a side 3G synthetic pitches, a 7 a side 3G synthetic pitch and an athletics track upgrade.
Work is expected to start on site at the end of May, with the completed new centre due to open in April 2013.
