The architecture that Grimshaw has developed, with the support of engineering consultant Buro Happold, has been designed to demonstrate sustainability principles as well as to have a striking form.
The building draws inspiration from natural processes like photosynthesis and is designed to capture energy from sunlight and fresh water from humid air. An aim is to demonstrate the possibility of self-sustaining architecture even in challenging climates.
The building is intended to remain in use after Expo 2020, giving a further aspect to its sustainability.
The project team will be supported by Grimshaw’s newest office in Dubai, recently opened to service a number of projects in the Middle East and beyond.
