Health & safety test suffers booking problems under new managers

5 Jul 12 Contractors trying to book construction health and safety tests, which all workers must sit to get their skills certification cards, have been having problems for the past few months.

Management of the tests transferred in April to a new provider, Pearson Vue. Since then, individual bookings have been fine but those trying to make group bookings have been having problems getting their requests processed.

CITB-ե֭Skills says that these teething troubles have now been fixed. All outstanding group bookings have now been processed and new group bookings are being processed within five working days.

Passing the health safety and environment test is a requirement for getting ե֭ Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) or ե֭ Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) cards.

Braden Connolly, head of testing and card services at CITB-ե֭Skills said: “I would like to apologise for the problems that some employers have had making group bookings for the test. While we are working with a new provider, there is no excuse for inadequate service.

“We have given top priority to making sure that Pearson Vue resolve the problems with their process and have now been assured that all group bookings have been processed and new group bookings are being processed within five working days. We will monitor the situation closely to ensure that this remains the case.

Pearson Vue managing director Matthew Poyiadgi said: “We are sorry that some customers have encountered problems with booking. We are confident that the steps we have taken now ensures that the system is robust and can cope with individual and group bookings effectively. Should anyone encounter problems in the future we would urge them to let us know so that we can deal with them immediately.”
